Amsterdam’s Submarine production company approached me recently about taking part in the making of a pilot animation about teenager diaries. This is a fun project where the animation depicts the teenagers telling the stories as awkward monsters. The negotiations are still going on so there is still no go ahead but have a sneaky peak at some monster I designed to get the creative ball rolling :
So in between the animating, cartoons and meetings I make Photoshop Collages for educational publishers!
It’s a bit of fun and a way for me to create new worlds that Look photographically realistic… most of the time 😉
Here below is one I’ve just finished. And, if you are at all interested I filmed myself while making it, so you can get a sneaky peak at how do it. Sadly I don’t work quite as fast as I seem to in this film 😉
Spring is in the air and EWC has rolled in to the new year at a gentle tempo but with some fantastically fun projects.
Sesame Street NL
Starting of I’ve been rounding off the Animation for Sesame Street NL. Finishing the edit for television last week. This short and sweet animation is about a little slug who gets cold and needs a new coat.
I can’t tell you too much, (Contract rules) but here’s a little GIF to give you a taste of whats to come and the scene layouts 😉
Cartoons & Chiropractors
And then there were Cartoons. My pals the Chiropractors asked again for a bit of fun in their annual magazine and this time it focused on ‘Self diagnosis’. The caption says ” I already diagnosed myself on the internet. So i’m only here for a second opinion!’
The project was to be a mash-up Stop-motion/Whiteboard animation explaining the in’s and outs of an internal project, to be presented to all of those who work at Cygnific (+600 peeps).
The idea was that it would be fun and inspiring to watch while explaining their future goals within the company. Easy Peasy… Although the deadline was 2 weeks from the start date ! Whaaa! bit short for a stop-motion explainer video!
But we managed to push out the deadline, wrote the script in 2 days (Breaking down a pile of information as tall as myself into a script less than one A4) Knock out a storyboard by the end of the week, and have props collected and made by mid week the following week, ready for production on the Wednesday!
That makes, 2 Weeks Pre-production & filming. Not Bad!
Now I’m busy with the Whiteboard animation and next week we go into Post-production, with the final edit and sound design etc. Phew!
It’s tight, but it gives you energy and pushes boundaries, making you think smart and produce creative, fun solutions. Watch this space for the final result.
But for now, here below are some photos of the production and my whiteboard tryout.
Hello my friends. It’s already 2015! How did that happen? And not only that, I haven’t spoken to you guys for… ages :s But I have a little news and some things to show you.
So lets start with a little look see.
I’m finally allowed to show you my Explanation animation / explainer video made for Wienerberger building solutions. They rightfully wanted to publish it before I got my blogging fingies on it. But here it is now in its You Tube glory for you all to see. I’m afraid it is in Dutch… But I made it for a Dutch company so it figures. For the non-Dutchies, it’s basically about the sustainability of the company throughout the full process of producing building materials for the world!
Watch and learn:
What more… I will be teaching at the Art Academy AKV in the Netherlands as of 27 February, Yey! which should be fun… A little guidance and telling the truth about the industry 😉
And then there is Sesame Street. I have the pleasure of making a cartoon for Big Bird again and at the moment in the middle of animating slimy little animals who are feeling the cold. I am not allowed to show you publicly what I’m doing, I’m contracted to secrecy… but i’ve made a making so when it’s been released I shall show you all.
Other than a few meetings and cartoony plans that all for now folks.
Best wishes for the new year.
“What was that?’ I hear you say.
Yes Dave is back! Almost a year on and I’ve been working with Dave again (from my animation ‘No Visual Culture’). But this time in an experimental setting. I’ve had my tool box out again and had a play around with mixing up techniques.
The result is a mixed media film, made using puppets on green screens, after effects puppet tool and 3D space, plus a little photoshop and premiere!
It’s not perfect, but as I said ,it’s an experiment and I’ve wanted to do it for a while considering my dislike to traditional time consuming animation techniques. This experiment was purely to see if I could do it and figure out for myself if I can use it for future projects, such as Sesame Street (whom I will be visiting this friday).
Take a look at the result and how I made it (The making of is part of the film. Enjoy!
If you’d forgotten what Dave’s original role was take a look below:
Ooo! And you may have noticed, these films are links from my new You Tube Channel 😀 Yey! It’s far from full but slowly but surly it is filling up. So take a look, subscribe and pass it on 😉
Big squeeze and make a wish!
